Governor David Ige ordered the U.S. and state flags to be flown at half-staff Sunday to honor former Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.  Ige called the assassinated ex-leader a friend of the islands.  Because flags were already at half-staff honoring victims of an Independence day shooting near Chicago, the governor had the flags lowered from sunrise to sunset on Sunday.  Abe was assassinated on a street in western Japan by a gunman who opened fire on him from behind as he delivered a campaign speech—an attack in a nation with some of the strictest gun control laws anywhere.

The Office of Economic Development is inviting residents and visitors to complete a survey to access transportation preferences on Kaua’i.  According to Kaua’i Now the survey is part of the Energy Transitions Initiative Partnership Project, for which the county is receiving technical assistance to study ways to improve the island’s transportation system through integrating emerging transportation technology.  Visit OED’s transportation website, getaroundkauai.com.
