The U.S. Coast Guard is joining the effort to project humpback whales in the Hawaiian Islands. US Coast Guard District 14 partners with the NOAA Office of Law Enforcement and the Hawaii division of Conservation and Resource Enforcement during Operation Kohola Guardian, from January to March. During that time, groups focus on monitoring and protecting humpback whales, enforcing humpback whale regulations, providing outreach and education to the community, and responding to distressed whales. Thousands of humpback whales use the islands as main breeding and calving wintering grounds every season.
