Veterinarian teams returned an eight-month old Hawaiian monk seal to the waters off Kauai after removing an ingested hook and fishing line from the animal’s esophagus. The seal was first spotted March 16th with about 30 feet of fishing line trailing from its mouth. It was taken to the Marine Mammal Center on the Big Island the following week. After removing everything, the seal recovered well and was transported back to Kauai and released on April 4th.
