Hundreds of volunteers at 42 sites across four islands counted humpback whales Saturday. It was the second of three Sanctuary Ocean Counts and Great Whale Counts for the year. Volunteers spotted just shy of a thousand whales with 64 spotted off of Kauai. Maui had the most sightings with 596 of the 997 total sightings.
