Visitor dies after being pulled from waters off Lāwa‘i Beach
LĪHUʻE – A visitor died Monday night after being pulled from waters off Lāwa‘i Beach last week.
On Wednesday, Aug. 14, at approximately 12:35 p.m., first responders were dispatched to Lāwa‘i Beach for an unresponsive swimmer. Bystanders administered CPR until medics arrived and took over advanced resuscitation efforts. The victim was transported to the Wilcox Medical Center and was later pronounced dead on Monday, Aug. 19.
The victim has been identified as a 66-year-old male visitor from Japan.
An autopsy is pending to determine the exact cause of death, but foul play is not suspected.
