KALALAU TRAIL CLOSED

SHARE NOW

Instead of reopening Thursday, the state now says Kauai’s Kalalau Trail will remain closed indefinitely.

This is after the highly contagious norovirus sickened about 50 hikers starting at the beginning of September.

However, starting Saturday, DLNR says it will partly open the shorter trail to Hanakāpīʻai for day use only.

A full opening will be determined later.

DOH is emailing a survey to those who held park permits between July 1 and September 4, 2024.

You can also take the survey by clicking here.

Responses will be kept confidential and DOH says you should still complete the survey even if you’ve already spoken with a health official.
