Kaua’i saw below average rainfall in the month of June. The National Weather service says all rain gauges on the island recorded totals that were below normal amounts for the month, most falling in the 30 to 60 percent range. Portions of the state continued to see extreme drought last month including some sections of Maui County and the Big Island.
The public will have a chance to comment on how health officials responded to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Kaua’i District Health Office will conduct a Community Assessment for Public Health Emergency Response later this month, according to Kauai Now, in order to assess the community’s perception of Kauai’s COVID response efforts and current emergency preparedness level.
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island was given new land on Tuesday in a deal that will protect and manage a pristine white sand beach and ocean bay area that is home to endangered and endemic species and to rare, culturally significant Native Hawaiian artifacts. Trust for Public Land, a national nonprofit land preservation group, transferred its ownership of Pohue Bay and surrounding land to the National Park Service.
