For the first time ever, someone has traveled by kayak alone from California to Hawaii under their own power. 46- year old Cyril Derreumaux had tried to make the crossing last year, but rough weather led to a helicopter rescue off of Santa Cruz. He completed the journey in 92 days, covering roughly 24 hundred miles across the mid-Pacific. He landed at the big island Tuesday afternoon. Last week, rower Carlo Facchino completed a 72-day solo row from San Francisco to Hilo but had some assistance toward the end of the journey.
