TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Lights on Rice Parade December 6
LĪHUʻE – The highly anticipated Lights on Rice Parade will take place on Friday, Dec. 6, 2024, starting at 6:30 p.m. in Līhu‘e. The parade will kick off at Vidinha Stadium, travel down Ho‘olako and Rice Streets, and conclude at the Historic County Building on ‘Eiwa Street.
Traffic Impact and Road Closures: To ensure the safety of participants and spectators, the Kaua‘i Police Department will close all streets along the parade route from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., or until the parade has concluded. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and expect traffic delays in the area.
Parking and Transit Updates:
- No parking will be allowed along the parade route—this includes ‘Eiwa and ‘Umi Streets—beginning at 5:30 p.m. on December 6.
- Parking restrictions will also be in effect at the Historic County Building and nearby state office parking lots from 3:00 p.m. to midnight to accommodate parade floats.
- The bus stop on ‘Eiwa Street will be temporarily relocated to Hardy Street, with all bus routes servicing the Hardy/‘Eiwa intersection from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
- The Route 70 Līhu‘e Shuttle will not operate on Rice Street during the parade.
Christmas Craft Fair & Additional Restrictions: The annual Christmas Craft Fair at the Kaua‘i Museum will also be taking place on the same day. For the safety of pedestrians and vendors and to accommodate the craft fair, a portion of the Līhu‘e Civic Center parking lot will be closed to access through the ‘Eiwa Street entrance from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
