A new statewide law banning the celebratory releasing of balloons is now in effect in order to protect marine life. Hawaii’s new law exempts hot air balloons, balloons released indoors and staying indoors, and balloons released for scientific or meteorological purposes released by the government. Violators will be subject to a 500 dollar fine per offense.
