The Department of Water (DOW) reminds customers in Hanalei that a water service shutdown has been scheduled to take place on Wednesday, June 18, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., weather permitting, for the Hanalei Water Line Improvements Project. The purpose of this project is to replace aging water main infrastructure to meet current water system standards, including existing fire flow requirements.

The water service shutdown will impact customers located on a portion of Weke Road, from Mālolo Road to the north end of Weke Road; Kūhiō Highway, from Mālolo Road to Waikoko, in the vicinity of the hairpin turn. Other impacted areas include ʻAmaʻama Road, ʻAnae Road, Heʻe Road, Mahimahi Road and Kumu Road.

Customers located in the affected areas are advised to prepare for the water service shutdown by taking the following steps:

  • Store enough water to meet your needs until water service can be restored.
  • Notify family, friends, tenants and neighbors about the water service shutdown.
  • Those with faulty water heaters should ensure that their water heaters do not empty during the shutdown.
  • Businesses are advised to prepare accordingly for the water service disruption.

The DOW will provide water buffaloes for essential water needs during the water service shutdown. Water buffaloes will be located at the Waiʻoli Park off Kūhiō Highway and at Waiʻoli Beach Park off ʻAmaʻama Road. Customers will need to provide their own water storage containers.

Updates to the water service shutdown will be posted at www.kauaiwater.org.  For more information, please call the Department of Water at 808-245-5455 or email [email protected].
