UH Manoa researchers are studying how many calories are burned by paddling an outrigger canoe.  Public health researchers are collecting data from paddlers to determine the metabolic equivalents involved in the activity, which show how many calories a person burns when engaged in physical activity.  60 participants were part of the study between March 7th and 10th.  Four out of six paddlers per boat wore a portable metabolic analyzer that monitored their body’s response during a 45-minute paddling session.
