The US Fish and Wildlife Service is proposing about 275 thousand acres of land on Kauai, Maui, and the Big Island as critical habitat for a native bird.  The I’iwi, or scarlet honeycreeper, is listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act.  The designation will reportedly help focus conservation efforts to manage and protect the species.  A virtual public information meeting and hearing on the proposed critical habitat designation will be held next month.
