Crews are reassessing Hanalei Bay on the north shore of Kauai today after a reported shark bite Sunday afternoon. Kauai first responders say a man suffered non-life threatening injuries to his leg while surfing in an area commonly known as “the bowl” off the bay. Signs were put out along Hanalei Bay and lifeguards were warning beachgoers to stay out of the water. The Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources was notified and lifeguards are waiting until 4 PM today, 24 hours after the incident, to reevaluate.
