A visitor to Kauai died while hiking at Wailua Falls Saturday. Authorities identified the victim as 28-year-old Nicole Chavez. Police responded to reports about a lost hiker around 4 PM Saturday after Chavez reportedly didn’t return to the Wailua Falls lookout for two hours. She was found unresponsive by hikers at the bottom of the falls. Foul play is not suspected. Authorities remind the public that Wailua Falls is closed off to hiking with “Danger” and “No Trespassing” signs in the area.
