Whale Removal

Crews worked through the weekend removing a 60-ton whale carcass from Lydgate Beach Park and burying it in an undisclosed location.  The park will stay closed until tomorrow although the animal is no longer there.  The sperm whale was discovered Friday evening and crews used heavy machinery to remove debris and perform cleanup work near Morgan’s Ponds.  In order to prevent desecration, the whale’s final resting place is being kept under wraps.
