May is Wildlife Awareness Month and the Kauai Fire Department advises the community to prepare for the summer season. The fire department is offering tips including to remove dead vegetation and other flammable materials, weed invasive grasses often, remove flammable materials from decks, porches, and underneath the house; keep the lawn hidrated and shorter than 4 inches tall around the home, have an escape route to a clear area safe from rapid fire spreading and report any possible fires including signs of smoke or flames by calling Kauai Police.
